Home Modifications and Equipment
A severely disabled person shall be reimbursed for reasonable costs incurred by home modifications and the acquisition of home equipment and appliances if these measures are deemed necessary for the person perform normal daily activities in light of his or her disability or illness.
Home modifications can consist of widening doorways, building ramps, toilet and bathroom adaptations, and other necessary alterations in a person’s permanent residence in order to adapt the home to the needs dictated by the disability. Home modifications can also include the removal of obstacles in the home’s immediate surroundings.
Examples of reimbursable home equipment, devices, and appliances include lifting devices and door openers. Some devices and appliances may be granted with a right of use.
